When is the best time to fly to Marsh Harbour?
Although the weather in the Abaco Islands remains consistent throughout the year, the tropical climate of Marsh Harbour brings much more rainfall in the winter season than in the summer. The driest month is March, but it can be chilly in the evenings, whilst from May to September, thunderstorms are extremely common. August is the best month to visit if you want to experience the warmest weather, but only if you don't mind the heavy downpours from tropical thunderstorms. Budget-minded travellers should avoid the peak period of December to February. July to November is the best time for finding cheap flights and good deals on accommodation.
Marsh Harbour overview
Marsh Harbour is the main tourist destination on the Abaco Islands and a central town for enjoying the idyllic paradise of the Bahamas. As the largest town in the Abacos Islands and due to its close proximity to the Great Abaco Highway, Marsh Harbour offers easy access to surrounding resorts and attractions. Although the town is closely connected with shipbuilding, Marsh Harbour offers many tourist facilities, shopping outlets and connections to outlying cays. From here, you can hop across the water to Elbow Cay, to see its famous candy striped lighthouse, located in Hope Town, or kayak on the Marls, a vast fish habitat located on the western shore of the island. A drive up the island on the S.C. Bootle Highway leads to Treasure Cay, a small coastal village resort that is renowned for its pristine white sandy beaches, which are considered to be some of the best beaches in the Caribbean. Further south of Marsh Harbour, the road leads to Abaco National Park, a protected area of pine forest that is the natural habitat of the Bahama Parrot. Marsh Harbour is also a fantastic destination for those who love water sports, offering a variety of snorkelling and diving sites, including Mermaid Reef and Beach on the north edge of Marsh Harbour waterfront, and the Abacos Train Wreck, a curious dive site consisting of two locomotives.
