This award-winning restaurant is something of an institution in Tagaytay. It is so popular, in fact, that people from Metro Manila even drive all the way to Tagaytay just to experience that distinctly Antonio’s experience. Apart from its famous, must-try dishes such as Lechon de Leche, pork ear salpicao and its certified Angus prime roast beef, visitors also come to experience the ambiance of this 17-year-old establishment. Located on Purok 138 in Barangay Neogan, the restaurant’s set in a beautifully-decorated old colonial home surrounded by lush greenery, making it the perfect location for romantic dinners and celebrations. More recently, the owners opened two other restaurants in Tagaytay, Breakfast at Antonio’s and Balay Dako, which are also worth a try.
Nanay Cirilas’ Kapeng Barako
Want to try homemade Filipino dishes? Then don’t miss Nanay Cirilas’ Kapeng Barako. Kapeng Barako is a locally-grown coffee, mostly found in the provinces of Batangas and Cavite. And, while the restaurant name refers to its exceptional coffee (which is a must-try in Batangas), people have also come to love the Filipino food they serve here. Among the most popular dishes are beef bulalo, Kare-Kare and crispy fried tawilis. As a bonus, the prices at Nanay Cirilas’ are affordable, so there’s no excuse not to try everything on the menu.
Sonya’s Garden
Another establishment noted for its sumptuous dishes and equally sumptuous surroundings is the 20-year-old Tagaytay staple, Sonya’s Garden. Set in a romantic greenhouse, the place has been a setting for many a proposal, including that of the founder herself, Sonya. Ambiance aside, the food is spectacular, and most visitors come for the fixed-price breakfast buffet, which includes daing na bangus (dried milkfish, which is a favourite among Filipinos) with mango salsa, chicken and pork adobo, and garlic rice. Apart from early morning offerings, the restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner.
South StrEAT Gourmand Container Park
After very successful openings in Sta. Rosa and Quezon City, the people behind StrEAT finally decided to bring their unique food park concept to the Tagaytay area. Located just 30 minutes away from People’s Park, the recently-opened South StrEAT Gourmand Container Park features food stalls serving a variety of delicious snacks — and it’s not just limited to Filipino flavours. Here, you’ll also find Korean, Hawaiian, Spanish, Mexican and even Guamanian dishes, as well. It’s open from 4 p.m. to midnight, which makes it perfect for those afternoon and late-night cravings.
Mushroomburger
Located just five minute away from the Summit Ridge Hotel, no trip to Tagaytay is ever complete without stopping by this famous fast food joint. Even locals can’t get enough of Mushroomburger‘s delicious burgers. As far as fast food goes, it’s super cheap, delicious and healthier than your average fast food burger. What’s not to like?
Bawai’s Vietnamese Kitchen
Vietnamese cuisine is making waves in the country right now. And, if you are looking to try authentic Vietnamese food while in Tagaytay, then booking a table at Bawai’s Vietnamese Kitchen is a must. Located on J. Hernandez street, Bawai (which means maternal grandmother in Vietnamese), is a cozy and charming restaurant serving homemade favourites from Vietnam — from Pho Bo to Goi Cuon to Tom Rang Me. The price may be a bit on the pricey side, but it’s worth it considering the quality of the food and the size of the portions — most dishes are perfect for sharing. Oh, and a little tip if you do indeed plan to make a stop at this establishment: Don’t forget to make reservations! The place is small, and because of its ever-growing reputation, it can get crowded.
