The town of Breckenridge flourished in the late 19th century as Colorado’s prime gold mining town. Today it’s evolved into the third biggest ski resort in Colorado attracting visitors from all over the country – and the world – to its fabled ‘Four Great Mountains’.
Renowned for being one of the best places in the US to learn to ski thanks to its stellar instructors and gentle slopes, Breckenridge also boasts intermediate trails and a heart-stopping 1,200 foot vertical double black-diamond challenge for advanced skiers. Because of its high altitude (up to 12,999 feet), some people may need time to acclimatise or may even suffer from altitude sickness.
Breckenridge’s historic downtown is quaint and has a good selection of shops, restaurants and après ski. Families are especially well catered for with a host of activities available from ice skating and sleigh rides to dog sledding.
Flights to Breckenridge land at Denver airport and from there the town is less than two hours by car or coach.
