The coastal town of Limassol is framed by the Troodos mountains. Its foothills provide most of Cyprus’s grapes and it has become the centre of viticulture on the island. None of this is new; Cyprus has been known to traders for its wine and sugar cane for centuries, since the days of the Crusaders.
We know Limassol as Cyprus’s largest beach resort. A family-friendly, sunny holiday place with a stunning seafront promenade, accommodation to suit every pocket and wonderful little shops and restaurants.
Away from the beaches, there is much to do in Limassol and the surrounding area. Tour a winery, visit Limassol Castle (where Richard the Lionheart is said to have married Queen Berengaria of Navarre and crowned her Queen of England) and its museum, look around the archaeological museum, municipal art gallery and folk art museum. The Municipal Gardens are a shady place to stroll and there is a small zoo for little ones to enjoy.
